On October 30 in Washington, D.C., The Rockefeller Foundation celebrated American philanthropy and was honored to recognize the individuals and organizations whose vision, innovation and commitment to advancement played central roles in battling disease, expanding educational opportunities, improving access to food, and promoting human and civil rights, among countless others. At the event, we presented Sir Elton John with The Rockefeller Foundation's 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award for his advocacy on behalf of people with HIV/AIDS, and for the innovative work he has done targeting the stigma of the disease.

On the occasion of its Centennial, The Rockefeller Foundation hosted a Summit titled, “Realizing the Potential of African Agriculture: Catalytic Innovations for Growth”. This intimate gathering brought together senior leaders in agriculture and finance, who engaged in a joint conversation aimed at identifying concrete ways to strengthen African agricultural markets and value chains to benefit economies and small holder farmers. The ideas and recommendations that emerged from this meeting will surely have a broad and positive impact on a range of actors in finance and agriculture.

Finding and implementing effective solutions and innovative ideas for the benefit of global health requires a firm understanding of the challenges ahead and thoughtful and visionary leadership to address them. That is why The Rockefeller Foundation, in conjunction with Peking Union Medical College, brought together leaders from all over the world to identify some of the key health challenges of tomorrow and ways to address them. Working together with The Rockefeller Foundation, participants were challenged to create a vision for the future of health, inspire others to join the cause and ultimately lead the charge for healthier societies.

Innovation is the hallmark of the Rockefeller Foundation's century of groundbreaking initiatives. It has characterized the Foundation's most compelling and life-saving work, from the development of a Nobel-prize winning vaccine for yellow fever in the 1930s, to the agriculture techniques pioneered by Rockefeller scientists that enabled the Green Revolution in the 1960s. The 2012 Innovation Forum focused on working together to identify how innovation can be applied in new and interesting ways to promote the well being of humanity around the world.
